It's SUMMER 2014 (Well almost) - Saturday July 19th

Spring has arrived and maybe we’ll soon see the last of the white stuff that’s keeping us off the golf course or out of the garden. This means it’s time to start planning our 2014 Lakeside BBQ.

This year’s event will be held on
Saturday, July 19th from 3 PM to 8 PM– please sign up early so that we can get a feel for the numbers and plan accordingly.

Everyone who attended last year had a great time, with games, boat rides and of course lots of good food (click 2013 BBQ Photos to see the photos and details from last year.)

Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, etc. will be cooked on the grill at our Board Member Barrie Hunter and his wife Anne's house. We'll also have some fun tournament games (low impact) - e.g. Baggo (also known as Core Hole) where you throw a bean bag on a slanted board and the Sling Ladder Toss Game. Prizes will be awarded.

The DEC Connection will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, bottled water, ice, utensils, plates, cups, etc. We would ask attendees to bring snacks, salad, sides, desserts, and any other drinks (besides the water provided).

The cost is $5 per couple (husband and wife or member and invited guest) to offset the cost of the event. One attendee must be a member
(click here to join or renew).

We ask you to sign up early. There is limited space at Barrie and Anne's house. Directions will be emailed to confirmed attendees a week before the event.
Click here to purchase your ticket.

Barrie and Anne's back yard has a lovely pond, suitable for swimming, so if you wish bring swimsuits and towels, etc.

Our reunion for folks who worked in and closely with BOIS (Business & Office Information Systems, located at TTB in Nashua, the group that marketed ALL-IN-1 and other fine products), was terrific!  Over 30 attended and enjoyed the conversation and camraderie.  Here are some photos.

Saturday, October 19, 2013: Luncheon at the Sudbury Senior Center with showing of Digital_Man/Digital_World

On October 19, 2013, from 2-5 PM, 35 DECconnection members and friends gathered at the Sudbury Senior Center in Sudbury, MA for a wonderful afternoon. The DVD entitled Digital_Man/Digital_World was shown, after which refreshments and visiting was enjoyed by all. It was wonderful to have so many folks gather and to continually be dedicated to "the Digital culture". Many stories about personal experiences were shared. Digital Equipment Corporation continues to live on through our retirees.

Each attendee was given a glass mug that was part of the Gordon College festivities when the Ken Olsen Art and Science Building was opened for use. There were many left over from that event and Dan Tymann gave several to me for distribution among our DEC retirees.

Wed, Oct 9th:  Learn about SOAR 55 near Maynard-Marlboro

DECconnection and SOAR 55 have agreed to merge our two events planned for September/October. We will now be joining SOAR 55 in presenting “The New Volunteering: Purposeful, Flexible and Meaningful” on Wednesday, October 9th at 7:00pm at the Goodnow Library in Sudbury.

Members of the DECconnection Board will be present to discuss the program and to meet with DECconnection attendees. We will also be looking for your feedback on our plans to hold a follow-up session specifically for DECconnection members in late October/early November. Please join us to hear more about this very interesting and worthwhile program.

If you plan on attending please drop a note to barrie.hunter@earthlink.net or loislevick@earthlink.net.

We all enjoyed the June 15th BBQ-Picnic at the Hunters' house in Marlboro.  See review and photos by using menu button above.

Or you can "roll your own event" in your geography, and we will support you - see below.

Reunion With Your Peers: We welcome your proposals!

The Board is considering potential DEC Connection events for 2013. One of those would be a Reunion of your peers defined and organized by you. Determine the peer group you would like to invite (by geography, building, affinity group [e.g. sales, engineering, manufacturing], years, etc.) Also choose the activity (e.g., a luncheon, dinner, cookouts, ball games, golf, boat rides, travel, music festivals, etc.). The Board of The DEC Connection will provide help choosing a site, determine the cost, negotiate with vendors, provide a portion of the funding, help with setup if Maynard area, name tags, selling tickets on our website, promoting, etc. This could be a small or large group. Members, send us your proposal at: info@DECconnection.org and we will be in contact with you.
