The Reading Digital Revolution - 60th Anniversary Celebration of Digital UK in Reading, England
DEXODUS,
the ex-DEC club of the UK, are active (still over
1000 members) and working on an incredible project! They have
created a series of museum exhibits to commemorate the 60th anniversary
of
the opening of the Reading, England facility, which seeded the area's
own "Silicon Valley." Exhibits open on 15 March and extend
through 6 December 2025 with a special celebration on May 3.
Partners in this effort included the Reading Museum, the UK
National Museum of Computing, the British Computer Society, and the
Reading University
Computer department. Here are links to existing exhibits and plans for the entire series of events, courtesy of Sandy MacKenzie from DEXODUS.
A bigger exhibition (than the photo) opened last year will be moved from National Museum of Computing in Bletchley to Reading. Reading Museum is staging a major exhibition
this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Digital Equipment
arriving in the town. (See https://www.readingmuseum.org.uk/reading’s-digital-revolution for
more information). This will be opening in March and Dexodus is
planning to hold a reception in the Town Hall, alongside the museum, on
Saturday May 3rd from 6-10pm. This will be open to all ex-DEC employees,
whether they are members of Dexodus or not, and they may also bring a
partner along with them. LINK TO The National Museum of Computing DEC Exhibition
